So today as I was trying to fall asleep for a lovely Sunday nap I was distracted by the sounds of kids playing outside and the feel of the pleasantly cool breeze coming through our screen door (yes...the door was open....in January....in Colorado....60 degrees, baby. AWESOME!) I suddenly became so excited for Spring to be here.
I love seasons and as much as I miss Arizona and California I love having 4 distinct seasons. And I love when the seasons are about to change.
Don't worry, I'm not getting my hopes up for Spring to come yet, I know we have plenty of Winter weather left ahead of us, but it's days like today that I remember how I'm so grateful for seasons.
I love Spring with it's blossoming flowers and green, new grass and the kite flying and rain and picnics and gardening and the sound of people and things coming out of their Winter "hibernation".
Summer makes me feel like playing all day. Swimming, camping, BBQs, fireworks, watermelon and tan lines and the smell of sunscreen.
And then comes Fall, when I'm so ready for it to cool down a little and put a jacket on, the leaves turn, and the air starts to get that crisp, "someone's got a fire going" smell to it and when all I want to do is bake pumpkin bread and burn cinnamon candles and go to pumpkin patches.
Winter comes bringing my favorite holiday, Christmas, it gets even colder and I am officially "allowed" to listen to Christmas music openly. And there's the perfect stillness of a thick snow falling and lights and bells everywhere. There's sledding and snowball throwing and snowman making and hot chocolate and crackling fires and family and baking.
And then when I'm ready for the snow to go away, it (the changing seasons) starts all over again. Everytime bringing the same traditions with new experiences and memories. It really is wonderful and always leaves something to look forward to.
What are some of your favorite yearly traditions or favorite things you do? I'd love to add to my list. :)

Just think... In AZ we have Spring and Summer.
I love the smell of a smokey fireplace burning. It isn't too often that you smell one in AZ but everyonce and a while it will drop to 50 degrees and someone will fire up the chimney...
Thats one of my favorite smells.
Love this post, by the way. Fun to read!
I give you permission to blog stock me primarily becuase I have been blog stocking you :)
i SO agree. i have missed the season immensely, that's why i'm SO glad we're finally somewhere where there's some semblance of change. i was so pleased today wearing my sweater and seeing my breath!
I love that you said "allowed" to listen to Christmas music openly!!
Our goal is to go sledding at least once every winter. This year we drove to the mountains outside of Chico. Last year we went to Yosemite. There is something about kids on sleds that just makes me laugh! And every summer we have to go camping at least once, even though we're not die hard campers. I think fall is my favorite season though (spring is good too, but I'm stirred to clean whereas during the fall I feel crafty and goodwill stirring)
What a fun blog layout! So glad to see you on here again Laurie!!
